We must demand excellence of ourselves.

Two U.S. Presidents have recognized Dr. Richard Tapia for his work in the Sciences as an academic, scholar, and community leader. He is a proud Chicano and one of the few tenured Latino professors leading a Science Department. He has been an inspiration and supporter of Nuestra Palabra for years. He dispels the myth that Mexican American Studies and Ethnic Studies are not for scientists.

This is an homage to work and his vision. NP has commissioned a print to help make his book The Precious Few more accessible and less intimidating to general readers of all ages. Professor Diaz walks us through highlights of Tapia's readings with Nuestra Palabra, and he talks to Marie Helena Cortez, who created an original visual artwork to honor Tapia and his book. The print that evolved from that and a copy of the book would form powerful components of family, community, and underground libraries.
