Dr. Murillo Donates Classroom Set

Dr. Murillo Donates Classroom Set

Unite to Make It Rain Libros in Book Deserts

Dr. Laura Murillo, President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Donates $1,000 for Classroom set of Hech En Tejas: The Anthology of Texas Mexican Literature, edited by Dagoberto Gilb. The books are given directly to Profe Ron, a Houston-high school teacher, who may use the books as needed. This ranges from a class on Mexican American Literature to rewarding students who thrive in the course or writing.

Additionally, Nuestra Palabra will provide class room visits of writers and poets, including a chance for Profe Ron and his students to meet noted writers Dagoberto Gilb when he returns to Houston as part of NP's Global Reading Series.

Don’t feel left out. You can pitch in, too. We are only $150 short of another classroom set. If we reach that goal, we will continue to gather to funds to get more books into the heart of Houston. If you know of other teachers, librarians, or community organizers who need book assistance, let us know. Let's make it rain libros in book deserts.

Click here to pitch in for copies of the The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros for students.
